Let me clear something up for you so you can make an informed choice. And while you have FREEWILL to choose whatever the fuck you want as your truth make sure you have enough information to make a decision that resonates with you and not something you were taught outside yourself.
Meditation is not a religion. Those who practice various religions utilize meditation to further their knowledge and quiet the mind to understand more of what they are taking in. Nothing more, nothing less.
And meditation is not prayer. It's completely the opposite of prayer. Prayer is a request for help or an expression of gratitude. Meditation is working with the mind to be still. Just like water being still there is a chance to see a reflection. A reflection of what is in the mind and how you can work with it.
And if you can't sit still and want to work with the mind, well, that takes practice. I have worked with thousands of people who in the beginning were mentally shooting daggers at me because they HATED meditating. Like 2 minutes of stillness irritated them so much that they were more restless than when they began. But they kept on. Just like anything, they had to practice with the mind. Train the brain so to speak.
Just recently I have been working with a woman who had never meditated in her life and when she began working with me I asked her why was she starting now. Her response was so perfect, "I'm menopausal and losing my shit." You and I both know, the mind is a tricky game. Our conditioning forms so much of what we believe to be true and when that doesn't resonate with our instincts, our truth, we start to lose our shit. The best place to begin to heal yourself is the MIND.
This strong woman showed up twice a week to meditate with me and she is now able to sit and to enjoy meditation. She isn't losing her shit. She is able to see the shit for what it is and decipher what resonates with her and what doesn't. Meditation is the key to her seeing herself in a new season of life. Nothing is constant. It will always change so if we have the tools to navigate the currents of life; the ones that threaten to capsize the ship and drown you without a second thought or the ones where we are blissfully floating along appreciating the colors that surround us. EVERYTHING CHANGES, including you.
Another client I have been working with for four months wanted to learn how to meditate in silence. She began with only a few minutes. Now she peacefully meditates in silence for an hour or longer each day. And you know what? She is POWER. She knows herself better than she ever has. She knows her voice. She knows what she wants and doesn't want. And you know how she did that? It wasn't me. It was her CHOICE, her FREEWILL choice, to choose to sit and see what was in the shadows of the mind. To practice even when she wanted to do the opposite. She was her own healer. She was her own medicine.
I say all this not to preach but to allow more information to be presented. There is this misconception about meditation. I remember working at a place where I was told I was not allowed to practice meditation because it was in conflict with their religious affiliation but I could practice yoga so long as the name was different and I didn't bring in "Indian practices". Yes, I know. What they didn't know was while I respected their request, I also intertwined my instructions for movement to be laced with instruction to work with the mind. I don't ask permission to heal myself or share information that could help another heal themselves. We must question everything.
My last small nugget of info that I will end with is this. The Western philosophy of meditation has been to preach "empty the mind". That's fucking stupid. Seriously. Why would you throw the baby out with the bathwater? Meaning, why would you want to empty your mind? Why would you have a dirty baby that you put it in the tub to be cleaned and when your done you dump the water and the baby out to be disposed of. That's just dumb. No, meditation is about asking the mind to be STILL. Did you notice I said ask? We control nothing. But we can work in partnership with someone or something. The mind is the same. It has been hurt over the years. It takes time. But love of the mind will change your world and the world you participate in.
I share with you in love. And if you are looking to meditate, come to one of my classes, listen to my free recordings, purchase a personal meditation recording, buy a package and work with me for a season in your life. Life is real and every answer you want to know is within you.
